On Tuesday, August 3rd, neighborhoods throughout Lansdowne are being invited to join forces with communities nationwide for the "27th Annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and locally by Lansdowne Borough and the Lansdowne Police Department, will involve over 14,000 communities in all U.S. States and Territories, Canadian CIties, and military bases around the world. In all, over 36 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night out Against Crime".
Locally, Mayor Young has pledged to use discretionary funds to purchase water ice for Lansdowne neighbors who hold an event led by a resident who has participated in one of the Lansdowne Public Safety Committee's Neighborhood Watch Organization trainings and has at least ten (10) attendees(You wondered why we had sign-in sheets).
National Night Out is designed to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships; and (4) Sending a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
From 7pm and 10 pm on August 3rd, residents in neighborhoods throughout Lansdowne and across the nation, are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police. We invite our neighborhoods throughout Lansdowne to host special events such as block parties (make sure to obtain a permit from the Borough), cookouts, flashlight walks, youth activities and anticrime rallies.
This year's theme is "Giving Crime & Drugs A Going Away Party."
